AIDS Awareness Month, which occurs every December, is meant to raise awareness for the debilitating diseases of HIV and AIDS, with a strong emphasis on prevention of contracting the disease.

Though significant progress has been made with drugs and drug cocktails that slow the spread and development of the disease, there is still no cure and no vaccine against it. HIV/AIDS killed an astounding 21.8 million people worldwide from 1981-2000 alone, and the number continues to rise.
