In 2006, President George W. Bush proclaimed March National Irish-American
Heritage Month. The goal in creating this month was to celebrate the
contributions of all Irish Americans. During the Great Potato Famine of the
19th century, approximately 1 million Irish immigrated to the United States.
Since then, millions more have come from Ireland, leaving a lasting impact in
our communities, government, and Armed Forces. Famous Irish Americans include
Grace Kelly, Henry Ford and Ronald Reagan.
