The Inns:Las Posadas |
Las Posadas ("The Inns"), a Christmas tradition in Latin America, are nine days during which families in neighborhoods come together to re-enact the hurdles that Joseph and Mary faced in finding a place to give birth to the baby Jesus. Hence the Nativity amongst the farm animals. Families role-play by going from house to house in their neighborhoods, processing with candles in hand and asking for shelter as Joseph and Mary would have done. No holiday would be complete without a holiday feast, so every night, one family hosts an elaborate dinner to appreciate the trials and tribulations of Joseph and Mary.
