World AIDS Day

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), the virus that leads to AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) was first discovered in 1981. Since then, many have been fighting against the discrimination associated with the disease, which is preventing people from getting the treatment they need. Only 10 years after HIV was discovered, the number of those infected across the globe soared to 10 million. That number has rocketed up to 40 million today. Awareness campaigns, starting mainly in the nineties, used celebrities and media to raise awareness, get treatment to people from all countries, and fight discrimination.
