Group B streptococcus (GBS) causes illness in newborn babies, pregnant women, the elderly, and adults with chronic illnesses. Approximately 1 in 4 pregnant women carry GBS, which is also the most common cause of life-threatening infections in newborns according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). GBS can infect babies during pregnancy and the first few months of life.
Group B Strep International (GBSI) annually sponsors International Group B Strep Awareness Month to promote GBS awareness and prevention. A simple test between the 35th and 37th week of pregnancy can determine if one is carrying the bacteria and if extra precautions need to be taken to prevent the spread of this bacteria.
You can help promote GBS awareness and prevention during this month with union made apparel like promotional polos, promotional sweatshirts, custom t-shirts, and promotional tees to improve your brand awareness and associate your company with a good cause. This month can be vital to future parents, and it will show that you care about them outside of the office also.
