In 2002, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network declared November National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. In the United States, pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death and has a mortality rate of 99%– the highest of any cancer. National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month strives to build public awareness about the disease and advocate for legislation that will grant more money to research cures and treatments. Because most patients are given a life expectancy of only three to six months after diagnosis, it is especially important to increase awareness and funds.
