Perhaps most associated with the last Tsarevich of Russia, Alexei Romanov, Hemophilia is a rare genetic disorder that prevents proper blood clotting. At present, there are 18,000 sufferers in the United States. Those suffering from Hemophilia may bleed for longer periods of time than average, even from a minor injury, or may suffer from severe unseen internal bleeding. If not properly managed, Hemophilia can be fatal. World Hemophilia Day, April 17th, is sponsored by the World Federation of Hemophilia. The World Federation of Hemophilia, other Hemophilia groups and treatment centers use this day to raise awareness, sponsor events, as well as organize gatherings and exhibitions.
