Challenge: How to gain more donors for a non-profit organization.
Every April is Donate Life Month, and a non-profit organization in Arizona was looking for a creative way to get more people to sign up to be organ donors. The non-profit targeted 250 media outlets across the state with the hopes of increasing both awareness and sign ups.
Solution: A month long promotional campaign using multiple promotional products.
The company kicked off the month of April with a kick-off breakfast, and provided all targeted media representatives with promotional sticky pads to remind them of the event. For each week of April, the representatives received different promotional objects that went along with a story of a person saved by organ and tissue donation. For example, an imprinted hula-hoop was sent out with a picture of a donor recipient hula hooping. Each promotional item came with the information needed to teach people how to sign up to be an organ donor.
Result: The campaign gains media attention and gets people signing up at a record rate.
The network tracked 72 news stories emphasizing the importance of organ and tissue donations. Viewers and readers were told how to go online to become donors. Nearly 2,700 people signed up in April—and 235 in one day! The total for the month was approximately 1,000 more new donors than during each of the previous months.
