Custom Hats Promote School Spirit At Football Games And Beyond

At University of Minnesota football games, custom hats let fans show off their Gopher pride. No ordinary hats, these bright yellow cowboy hats feature the logo for the university, making them the perfect way to get fans pumped up at game time.

The custom hats are mostly worn by Gopher Greeters, an “aggressively friendly” pack of students who attend all home games and help welcome fans to the event.

Erin Kober, a marketing manager for the university, came to ePromos seeking a way to make these greeters more visible in a packed stadium. “The cowboy hats will hopefully call attention to our Gopher Greeters because they are fun and will stand out in the crowd,” she says.

But the custom hats are more than an amusing part of game days—they’re also a way to raise money for a Goldy Gopher statue, an iconic symbol for the university that will be stationed outside a central gathering place on campus.

“We’re raising money to get a bronze Goldy Gopher statue,” says Kober, “which is an initiative to bring together the campus community and school spirit.”

The university has donation boxes placed at various locations around campus, and it’s also selling silicone bracelets to raise money.
