|Challenge: Find an affordable trade show product that could serve multiple tasks |
A well known bank conglomerate was looking for a unique giveaway item for an upcoming trade show. The bank wanted to create a buzz at their trade show booth, generate traffic to their new website, and promote home loans. They needed a product that could accomplish all those things, but was still affordable enough to give away in large quantities.
Solution: Lip balm was handed out to encourage people to visit the company’s website
Promotional lip balm was chosen, but with a twist. Instead of just handing out promotional lip balm with only the bank’s name and website information on it, the product was also imprinted to say, “Guess the Flavor.” As the bank’s representatives were giving out the lip balm, they told their customers to go to their new website and submit their guesses as to what the flavor was made up of (watermelon, vanilla, honey dew, and cantaloupe). As a prize, the winner would receive a “no closing cost” on a home loan, or a low interest rate on a home equity loan.
Result: Huge increase in website traffic and recruiting of new clients
The campaign was extremely successful for several different reasons. First, the promotion was unique enough to draw special attention to the bank’s booth at the trade show. Secondly, because the flavor guesses had to be submitted online, it successfully increased traffic to the bank’s new website. Finally, because the prize was related to doing business with the bank, the promotion generated more client home related loans.
