| Challenge: How to decrease work related injuries in a large food processing company On-the-job injuries were costing too much–both in terms of financial costs, and work efficiency. The company wanted to improve workplace safety, and cut their bottom line. Specific goals were set, and the company decided to aim for reducing injuries by 30% and expenses by 300,000 dollars. Solution: Create and implement an incentive system that rewards staying accident free Realizing that a safe work environment by itself was not enough to keep workers accident free, they needed a promotional products campaign that highlighted individual responsibility. The S.E.E.D, or, Safety Every Employees Duty campaign was started. |

To create a fun campaign that employees would want to participate in, a variety of promotional products were used to highlight the message of workplace safety. The kickoff event involved imprinted buttons which allowed accident free employees to be entered into a raffle for prizes. More than 20 products were used ranging from blankets to radios. All of the products were branded with the main theme: “Planting the Seed of Safety and Harvesting the Rewards” which tied in nicely to the agricultural nature of the company. Furthermore, bi-lingual imprinting on products ensured all employees knew all aspects of the campaign and the potential rewards.
Result: A record year for safety
The company saw 100% participation from its 600-plus employees. In one year, there was a 67% decrease in injury claims. The promotional campaign created a record year for safety and significantly cut costs at the same time.
