ePromos account executive Mike Bloomenthal worked with Top Marketing USA to help its client, State Farm Insurance, prepare give-away, branded wristbands for a major youth soccer tournament. Over a three week period, Bloomenthal negotiated the pricing, production and other promotion details that would put State Farm-branded wristbands into the hands of players, coaches, family members and fans.
Challenge: A communications snafu threatens the budget and grinds production to a halt
Top Marketing staff approved and finalized the art and production order, and production gears were ready to whir—until State Farm threw up a last minute stop sign: where the production order called for screen-printed wristbands, they had originally requested embroidered. Although the order could be changed and the wristbands embroidered, it wouldn’t be without either missing the tournament deadline or blowing the budget.

Quick thinking on Bloomenthal’s part saved the promotion: instead of fulfilling the order with all two-ply wristbands, which the original order called for, why not use a tiered gift-giving scheme with the one-ply, screen-printed wristbands going to family members and fans and the two-ply, embroidered wristbands going to players and coaches? By splitting the order in half and using the less expensive one-ply, screen-printed wristbands, Top Marketing was able to get the embroidered wristbands produced on time—and the entire order produced on budget.
The tournament was a success as well: the wristbands arrived on time and were well received; and Top Marketing USA was so pleased that they asked for Bloomenthal’s help on more sports-themed promotions.
