Challenge: How to keep employees dedicated and invested in a company. A major Fortune 500 company wanted to increase employee loyalty and dedication. The company wanted to design a recognition program specifically for the customer service department and wanted the employees to be invested in the company and its future. Solution: Design a recognition program, complete with promotional crystal awards. The company planned a kick-off luncheon before the busy season in September. The purpose of the luncheon was to announce the recognition program and garner enthusiasm from the staff. A stunning crystal vase was presented to each of the 250 customer service and middle management employees to raise awareness for the recognition program. Each crystal vase was etched with the company logo and the tagline: “YOU are the company.” Inside the vase was a letter from the president explaining the recognition program, as well as explaining the company mission and values. Each quarter managers recognized staff members with gifts of appreciation. The appreciation gave staff members the motivation they needed to work harder. At the annual banquet, the company gave each employee a card thanking them for their hard work and dedication as well as the matching crystal candy dish. Results: Employee response is even better than expected. The customer service employees were thrilled with the functional and beautiful lead crystal recognition gifts. The managers were surprised at the increase in employee dedication during the busy season, and throughout the rest of the year. The tactic worked so well that the company expanded the recognition program to other departments as well. |
