One of the most common promotional products used for events and corporate identification is the ID badge holder system. This particular item or system can be customized in three basic ways; the lanyard that holds the badge, the clip or connector that attaches the lanyard to the badge, and the badge itself. The lanyard offers many options in materials and printing that will fit a wide variety of uses. One color and multicolored logos may be imprinted or woven along entire length of the lanyard. Care must be taken in the selection of the lanyard to insure that the logo will fit properly in the space provided and that the material will provide a good substrate for the printing process. Stock lanyards are also available in a multitude of colors, prints, material, and sizes. These are suitable for uses not requiring a custom imprint.
In selecting the clip, or connector that attaches the lanyard to the badge, it is important to keep in mind the use of the badge system. Careful planning in the selection of this item will insure the system meets its intended use. Ask questions such as; Is the badge system being used for a single or multiple day event? Will the badge need to be easily attached and removed? Is it important that the badge, or attached item not be lost?
There are many options for attaching the lanyard to the badge. A quick release clip allows the badge to be easily removed without requiring the wearer removing the lanyard. The spring clip offers a low cost, though less secure method, for easily attaching and removing the badge. The swivel hook allows the badge or attached item to rotate easily in order to display both sides or for more comfort. The common split ring enables the secure attachment of keys and other items to the lanyard. These are only a few of the many ways to clip a badge or item to a lanyard.
The badge itself, also offers options for customization that the event planner may wish to keep in mind. The badge can be purchased with generic imprints such as “Attendee” or “Exhibitor” with the individuals name being hand written at the time of registration. Imprinting technology is also available that allows ID badges to be custom printed with the attendees photograph and information at the time of registration as well as custom logos and other information. When contacting a promotional products specialist, consider how the badge system will be used. This will make it easier to select the right elements for the entire system from lanyard, to clip, to badge.
