Politicians do it before people vote. Churches do it to notify people when Vacation Bible School begins. Retail stores do it to promote Daisy Fuentes’ latest designs or Mountain Dew in specially printed plastic cups. Museums do it to advertise the latest Jan VerMeer display. Promotional banners, signs and flags inform people whom is appearing in concert, when the next model car is for sale and that they are going green. People have become used to surveying the landscape for notifications on custom printed banners the way they used to peruse billboards.
People see signs every day. It’s how they become aware. Branding uses promotional trade show products to be more personal in a world fast becoming robotic. People spend more time online than they do in line in a time when ordering pharmaceuticals, groceries, clothing, cars and other needs has become the norm and socializing in a line waiting for the cashier has become passe. Banners, signs and flags become more personal because they draw the eye to the trees they’re hung from or the building they decorate and sometimes even the car from which they fly.
Automobile owners fly their sport team preference from their windows. As they drive, they notice logo poster displays on convenient stores and cell phone distributors. They will even notice the poignant Support Our Troops printed signs in the windows of private homes. But these are only some of the uses for promotional items.
Companies engage the help of drivers of small trucks with a display board on the bed of the truck. Wrapped around this board are promotional vinyl banners advertising a brand. These drivers mosey the roads simply advertising. Occasionally drivers will see former moving and hauling company trucks wrapped the same way with a brand splashed across the trailer. Monster pickup trucks will do the same job. Because people spend much time in cars traveling to work and home these banners and signs bring the brand to them in a personal way, raising awareness of brands that aren’t ignored in pop up ads online.
Branding uses promotional items to bring a more personal touch to consumers burned out on online advertising. It motivates people to see the world from which these items fly.
