| What’s better than a golf newsletter written by promotional product experts? A newsletter written by promotional products experts – and a golf pro. We tapped the mind of our very own Director of Sales Sean Huban – and resident golf pro – and had him give us the low-down on what makes up a successful golf outing – and what products never leave the recipient’s side. Here is what he had to say: |
Brand Your Event:
When everywhere you look you see the name of the event and the course, you know you are part of something special. By branding your event, you create an atmosphere that makes your participant feel like they are part of the event, and it’s not just any other day on the course. Popular golf related items like golf balls, tees, and golf-shirts consistently keep the name of your event (and your company name) in their
eyes at
all times. They may not use all these products after the event is over, but the feeling they have during the event will keep them coming back year after year to play – and most likely tell their friends about it as well!
Don’t Neglect The Participant Giveaways:
Whenever a participant arrives at a course, they get a bag with stuff in it. I know that sounds very general, but the contents of that bag vary greatly depending on the budget of the event, where the event takes place, and who’s putting it on. Regardless of what is in the bag, it’s important to show your participants that you appreciate them being there and that you want them to keep coming back. The products don’t have to be expensive, they just have to be useful and perceived as being of higher quality – so they want to keep it. Some of the most common product categories I’ve seen in these bags are:
Golf Shirts – Everyone needs a shirt – especially if they are nice. I’ve gotten shirts that range from Fruit of the Loom to Nike ($1 to $80), but the thing that matters is how likely am I going to wear the shirt off of the course – or if I’m going to wear it at all. The nicer the shirt is, the more likely I’m going to want to wear it out in public.
Sean's Pick: Fine Pima Pique Polo Shirt by Devon & Jones®
Popular Golf Accessories – I love getting nice quality golf accessories. I usually find imprinted golf towels, divot fixers, and ball markers – I’ve even found fun little products that help you around the course like miniature sharpies to help me mark my ball so I know which is mine.
Personal Items – I’m seeing these products everywhere. Whenever I get one of these bags, I’m seeing lip balm, sunscreen, insect repellant, first aid kits and I love them. I can stick them into my golf bag and have easy access to them when I need them.
Headwear - Promotional visors are a big hit on the golf course – as well as unstructured caps. They are highly visible and even the pros wear them. My good friend Tiger Woods *cough* is rarely seen on the course without one, and what golfer wouldn't want to be like him?
Sean's Pick: Dry Mesh Back Visor
Don’t Forget the Awards:
Being a competitive environment – it’s important to give your participants something to “shoot” for besides improving their handicap on the golf course. Putting on contests and prizes at events like: “lowest round,” "closest to pin," etc. are great ways to improve the competitive edge of your golf outing. Some of the most popular types of awards are:
Golf trophies and awards: hugely popular and are just another way to make participants at golf outings feel special. Giving out an award that the winner can display at home or on their desk at work gives them that special feeling and even "bragging rights" at the office.
Sean's Pick: Golf Ball Paperweight
High-end Gifts as Prizes: If you are not in the habit of giving out awards or trophies, companies also give out high-perceived value gifts to participants to bring home with them. Some of my favorites are sunglasses, watches, cigars and cigar related items like lighters, humidors, and cigar cutters, shoe bags and golf umbrellas – golfers love the quality and will actually keep them.

| Going Green on the Green: Eco-friendly Golf Products
| | |
If you are unfamiliar with the golf scene, on a regularly used golf course, it’s very common to see things like broken tees around “the tee.” So much litter can't be good for the environment. Luckily with the boom in popularity of eco-friendly products it's a great opportunity to incorporate them into your golf outings. We've picked out 5 popular golf accessories that are completely eco-friendly, take a look at how you can stay green on the green:
Golf Tees:
 | Promote going green with this double promo item. The organic cotton golf pouch comes with eco-friendly bamboo tees, making this promotional golf accessory doubly good for the environment. |
Golf Umbrellas:
 | Almost every golfer carries a golf umbrella with them and why not? In case of a freak rainstorm these large umbrellas will keep you completely covered. Why do you need an eco-friendly golf umbrella? The large size of these umbrellas uses up a lot of material, but the eco-friendly umbrella uses material like recycled plastic bottles - which reduces waste and minimizes the environmental impact from manufacturing a brand new material from scratch. |
Eco-friendly Golf Balls:
 | One of the newest products on our site, these eco-friendly golf balls have a core made from recycled tires and the packaging is made from recycled cardboard. |
Golf Tees:
 | Like we mentioned earlier, golf tees make up the greatest amount of litter around the golf course. To reduce golf outing waste these biodegradable golf tees are perfect, even if they are left at the tee they'll breakdown naturally making them great for the environment. |
Golf Towels:
 | We have talked a lot about the benefits of bamboo as a renewable and sustainable resource in previous newsletters, what we forgot to mention is that bamboo is also naturally anti-bacterial and a naturally fast drying fiber, making it the perfect material for a golf towel. |
Using any of these eco-friendly products at your next golf outing is sure to reduce your carbon footprint and build your companies image as an eco-conscience business.

Earth Day
For the last couple years, eco-friendly promotional products have grown in popularity. Items like reusable tote bags and products made from recycled materials are popping up everywhere and it’s more important than ever for our planet to keep this “going green” effort going. Earth Day, April 22nd, is the perfect opportunity to not only use eco-friendly products, but educate with them.
Instead of just demonstrating how ecologically aware your company is by using promotional products, you can use promo items to educate students and even your employees about the importance of protecting our planet. Items like the EcoHome Energy Conservation Kit are perfect for use in the education industry, giving students hands on experience with learning ways to protect the Earth.
Promotional books are another tool you can use to educate employees or students during Earth Day. Many of our custom books are made from recycled paper - a good tie-in to the Earth Day theme - and look great in an office waiting room where visitors can read up on ways to be more eco-conscious.
Plan ahead and take advantage of the

Golf Outings Get Personal
| | |
Giving out golf themed products is an obvious choice when hosting a golf event, what's not so obvious is the trend that is becoming extremely popular - personal products. There are a few personal items that are perfect for a day out on the green, below are some of our favorites.
Personal Healthcare Items:
Items like sunscreen, lip balm, and insect repellent are great items for golf events. These are inexpensive items that golf outing participants can keep in their bag and grab whenever they need them.
First Aid Kits:
First aid kits are always handy to have in a golfers golf bag. Golfers get blisters all the time from swinging their golf clubs all day and first aid kits are always a great quick fix.
Golf-themed Personal Kits:
Since personal items are growing in popularity on the golf-course, it's only natural for us to carry personal healthcare items with a golf theme. These items are clever tie-ins for any golf outing, you can have golf ball shaped items like custom sunscreen in a golf ball-shaped bottle.

Golf Accessories
| |
Golf accessories are probably the most inexpensive and easiest products to hand out at golf outings. Whether you are hosting the event or participating, these 3 golf accessories will give you great exposure on the green:
Divot Tools:
Next to golf tees and balls, divot repair tools are most likely the third most popular giveaways at golfing events. Like balls and tees, this item is used constantly on the golf course, this will help increase brand exposure for your company and event.
Ball Markers:
This convenient golf tee and ball marker keychain is perfect for on the green. It can be attached to a golf bag easily, showing off your logo.
Golf Tags:
Most people are trying to save money on their golf outings this year by not handing out expensive corporate gifts like golf bags, instead they are giving away imprinted golf bag tags. By using a bag tag you can easily build brand exposure, while your recipients can easily identify their golf bag.

| Branded, Multi-use Divot Tool Helps Drive Booth Traffic For Tradeshow Favorite NAVTEQ
| | |
| Challenge: To identify a tradeshow giveaway with high perceived value for favored customers and qualified leads
One
marketing strategy—more than any other—presents incredible
opportunities to promote products old and new, to fill the funnel with
qualified leads and to increase brand visibility. That strategy: the
tradeshow. According to the Incomm Center for Trade Show Research and
Sales Training, up to 60 percent of booth visitors are part of
decision-making teams—80 percent of which make decisions about products
and providers while at the show. Also, according to Incomm, 52 percent
of show attendees are more likely to stop by your exhibit if you offer
samples and giveaways.
The tradeshow strategy is an ongoing effort for NAVTEQ,
a leading provider of comprehensive digital map information for
automotive navigation systems, mobile navigation systems,
Internet-based mapping applications, as well as government and business
solutions. With more than 3,800 employees in 194 offices in 42
countries around the world, NAVTEQ is a regular at highly attended
industry-specific national and international tradeshows, including the
Oracle Openworld in San Francisco, ExpoComm in Buenos Aires, GITEX in
Dubai, the Mobile Asia Congress in China and SITL in Paris.
For
one of its recent upcoming shows, the NAVTEQ team tapped the
tradeshow-know-how of ePromos Promotions Specialist Valerie Bogucharova
for help in identifying and selecting a unique, high quality product
that would drive booth traffic—and thus leads and sales. The team
wanted a promotional product with high perceived value to impress
current customers and qualified leads, as well as with an upscale
appearance in keeping with the firm’s image and brand.
Solution: Aluminum divot repair multi-tool to extend promotional reach
Their selection: an imprinted, aluminum divot repair multi-tool
Result: Tradeshow success—many new people met, many great impressions left
The
NAVTEQ team reports tradeshow success: gift recipients were duly
impressed with the high quality giveaway, helping to drive high, steady
booth traffic throughout the event. The team thanks the divot tool as
an indispensible part of their show success, crediting the promotion
for many opportunities to meet and speak with prospects and customers
alike.
in NAVTEQ’s corporate blue complete with ball marker, knife, nail file,
screwdriver and divot fixer. Being a multi-tool extends the use of a
typical on-course-only golf companion to that of an on-the-go,
anytime-anywhere pocket companion. And where companion goes—the NAVTEQ
names goes as well.
