Giving Back: How Goodwill Campaigns Can Mean Big Benefits For Your Company

While business owners are traditionally focused on making more money or growing as an organization, a new business idea is gaining fast popularity-goodwill campaigns. For businesses of any size, involvement in charitable works can have countless benefits. Between increasing company exposure, and heightening job satisfaction for employees, goodwill campaigns serve many unique purposes.

According to the Council on Foundations (COF), a group that aims to help philanthropic organizations expand and enhance good works, 83 percent of Americans have a more positive image of companies that support a cause they care about. Additionally, 65 percent of Americans report that, with the price and quality of a good equal, they would switch to a brand associated with a positive cause. Consumers that respect your company's ethics will not only initially buy your product, they are sure to turn into repeat customers.

Enhancing your image with a goodwill campaign is not only a savvy business practice, it also makes your organization appear more human, while simultaneously creating a strong competitive advantage. Equally as important, your employees are likely to reap the benefits of a successful philanthropic campaign. The COF reports that 87 percent of employees at companies with cause-marketing programs feeling a stronger sense of loyalty to their employer. This translates into a more productive and healthier workforce, and lower training and other employee-related costs.

Before embarking on a full-blown campaign, make sure you choose a cause or charity that is a good match for your company. While many matches may seem obvious, making the wrong choice could actually be detrimental to your business. In order to guarantee a successful campaign, you must first determine which causes are most meaningful to you and your employees. Ensure that audiences don't view your choice as gimmicky by being truly genuine in your decision.

Essential to any goodwill campaign is choosing products that will promote it wisely. Keeping the goals of the charity you are working with in mind, take time to brainstorm which promotional items will convey their message best. Personalized hats and T-shirts are almost universally appropriate for any event, and act as walking billboards for your company. Giveaways like customized golf balls and key chains serve a functional purpose and remind their receivers of your company every time they are used. Promotional balloons and banners are sure to generate enthusiasm among event attendees, and help make your organization into a household name. For children's organizations in particular, unique items like personalized stuffed animals, sports balls and toys like yo-yo's and silly putty are not only amusing-they arouse interest and spark curiosity about your business.

Ultimately, the rewards of engaging in a goodwill campaign prove to be beneficial for both the company and the cause it is undertaking. Beyond the obvious benefits of increasing your company's exposure and ultimately increasing your profits, a lot of the rewards of charitable contributions are intangible ones. Nothing can compete with the feeling of knowing you gave back to your community.
